Rotterdam 2016, video (3:10min) & 9 collages
Destructive Duality is derived from techniques of collage and montage, where cutting, ripping and mixing fragments of one or more images create whole new images. The sources of these collages are different portraits of myself with various facial expressions. These were given to other people within my society to form and shape the ‘new’ me. By using this technique of letting other people decide how I should look like, I gave myself fully into the hands of an other - my visualization of the current situation and my personal experience in today's society.
In addition to the 9 collages the video work gives me the opportunity to do the same - shape, manipulate and transform myself.
The work was part of the exhibition FOCUS at Het Wilde Weten in Rotterdam, 2016.
